Our Lady of America, through this devotion, wishes to bring into our constant awareness the truth of the Holy Trinity dwelling in the hearts (our own hearts) of those in a state of sanctifying grace. It is this awareness that brings a very personal understanding to the impact of sin in driving out the Holy Trinity from one’s heart. And furthermore, the soul stained with sin can be made clean and ready for the Divine Indwelling through the Sacrament of Penance and can remain there by seeking the graces of purity promised by living the teachings of this devotion. This is the remedy for our world’s plight of grave and pervasive sin. This is the gift of devotion to Our Lady of America, Patroness of Our Land. From the Messages to Sr. Mary Ephrem:
“On November 8, 1954, a short time after the visit of the Angel of Peace, Our Lady spoke to me in these words:
‘It is the wish of my Son that fathers and mothers strive to imitate me and my chaste spouse in our holy life at Nazareth. We practiced the simple virtues of family life, Jesus our Son being the center of all our love and activity. The Holy Trinity dwelt with us in a manner far surpassing anything that can ever be imagined. For ours was the earthly paradise where once again God walked among men.
As in our little home no sin was to be found, so it is the wish of the Heart of my Son and my Immaculate Heart that sin should, as far as possible, be unheard of in the homes of our children.
The Divine Trinity will dwell in your midst only if you are faithful in practicing the virtues of our life at Nazareth. Then, you also, my children, you also will become another paradise. God will then walk among you and you will have peace.
I need your help to bring peace into the world. Do not disappoint me.'”
Our Lady recognizes the special love that America has for her and grants us our own special name for her. She reveals herself anew as Our Lady of the Indwelling Trinity (November 22-24, 1957). She wishes for us to participate in that grace by seeking purity in our lives, by living in a state of Sanctifying Grace and with prayer, sacrifice and Sacraments. This makes our souls pure and through the love of the Trinity they do dwell in the soul of one who loves them so much. [1] And then, as in Nazareth, the Trinity dwells among us and the face of the world is renewed through God’s Peace and Love.
[1]Fact of the Indwelling. The fact that the Blessed Trinity dwells in the just is beyond question. St. Paul wrote: “Know you not that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” (I Corinthians 3, 16). But not only the Holy Spirit, but also the Father and Son dwell there, for “If anyone love Me he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him, and will make Our abode with him.” (John 14, 23).
